La Liga club have Spurs player as ‘favourite option’ for January loan – Journalist

Barcelona are thought to be keen on signing Giovani Lo Celso in the upcoming transfer window, but Tottenham Hotspur may be set to stand firm and keep hold of the player despite him not getting game time at the club currently.

Since his big move to Tottenham, Giovani Lo Celso has never quite had a breakthrough or a consistent run in the first team.

The Argentinian has spent the last two seasons on loan at Villarreal, where he managed to rebuild his reputation somewhat.

Despite intense rumours over his future during the summer, Ange Postecoglou opted to keep hold of Lo Celso and give him another chance to impress in North London. However, he has played just 83 minutes of football across four appearances this term (Transfermarkt).

Lo Celso has largely found his path blocked by James Maddison, but even with the England international out injured, it was Rodrigo Bentancur who stepped into the first team in Tottenham’s last game.

Will Spurs let Giovani Lo Celso go?

Reports in Spain have linked Lo Celso with a move to Barcelona of late, with the 27-year-old thought to ‘fit the profile’ the Catalan club are looking for (Mundo Deportivo).

According to El Chiringuito journalist Jose Alvarez Haya, Lo Celso is now the ‘favourite option’ for the La Liga side heading into the winter window, with a loan move on the agenda for Barca.

However, the belief coming out of Cadena Ser’s Carrusel Deportivo is that Spurs “will not let” Lo Celso leave at all and it’s suggested Barcelona should look elsewhere.

Spurs Web Opinion

In a very similar situation to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, I just don’t think Postecoglou can afford to lose any players in January unless a direct replacement is coming in. All I’ve heard so far is that the priorities are defence and attack, so I can’t see Lo Celso getting a move in January.
