Ledley King disagrees with Jenas about what Spurs should do against Man City

Ledley King and Ossie Ardlies have both backed Ange Postecoglou to continue playing front-foot, attacking football even though he is without many of his key players.

Tottenham have fallen to three straight defeats in the Premier League and are now staring down the barrel of a fourth, with the trip to the Etihad Stadium on the horizon.

Postecoglou is without a whole host of first-team stars, with Rodrigo Bentancur being the latest to be added to Spurs’ growing injury list after it emerged that the Uruguayan is expected to be out for at least two more months with an ankle injury (Football.London).

Jermaine Jenas accused the Australian coach of naivety against Aston Villa, insisting that he should been slightly more cautious, given the players Spurs were missing (BBC Sport).

The former Spurs midfielder warned Postecoglou that Tottenham might be embarrassed on Sunday if he employs a similar approach against Manchester City.

Tottenham should give it a go against Man City

However, both Ardiles and King disagreed with Jenas’ assessment, with the Argentine insisting that there was nothing wrong with the Lilywhites’ performance against Unai Emery’s men.

He told Reuters: “Ange is going to persevere with his philosophy of football and I believe that is absolutely crucial. The approach that we had against Aston Villa, it was absolutely brilliant.

“We were there to win the game and this is what Tottenham always represents and this season is going to carry on being like that.”

King backed up Ardiles, calling on Postecoglou to stick with his preferred approach.

The legendry centre-back said: “We played well in two of the defeats. I don’t think the manager needs to change anything at this point.

“The difficult part is that we have many players missing and the Premier League is a very unforgiving league. But I believe the manager trusts his philosophy, he’s been successful that way and he should stick with it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One can argue that pragmatically, Tottenham’s best chances of getting results at the moment is to play an attacking brand of football and look to outscore the opposition.

Without Romero and Van de Ven, I do not think we are capable of keeping out the opposition even if we defend with ten men behind the ball.
