Lord Sugar questions Mauricio Pochettino’s decision on Twitter

Tottenham Hotspur crashed to their first defeat of the season in a toothless performance against Newcastle United.

Spurs had plenty of the ball, but with playmaker Christian Eriksen on the bench, had no way of breaking down a Newcastle side who came to park the bus and it was the visitors who instead found gaping holes at the other end.

Davinson Sanchez and Danny Rose were caught out of position which allowed Joelinton to get on the end of substitute Christian Atsu’s pass and score what proved to be the match winner.

Spurs looked lost in the final third of the pitch and had no answer to unlock the Magpie’s defence.

After the match, former Spurs chairman Lord Sugar took to Twitter to criticise the display and to also question the reason why Eriksen was left on the bench.

The reality is that Eriksen’s future at the club is still up in the air until the European transfer window closes on September 2nd.  We cannot pin all our creative hopes on one player, especially one who doesn’t want to play for us any more.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. So we try to play something else or a different way and fail meanwhile the fans are treated to dribble like that today. Sell everyone of them and buy the Barcelona team that played tonight at least they try to play and entertain.

  2. Presumably we are still paying Eriksen, so. Is it too much to ask for him to give one hundred percent when training and playing for our club. It makes one weep when you think how much he is earning!!
