Another day, another goalkeeper

Another day, another link with a foreign goalkeeper. This time Roma number 1 Maarten Stekelenburg has been linked with a move to Spurs after his agent confirmed talks with “several clubs” (De Telegraaf).

The Dutch international joined Roma just 1 year ago on a 4 year contract from Ajax but following a disappointing season in Serie A and the emergence that Roma are interested in signing Inter Milan veteran Julio Cesar, rumours that Stekelenburg is edging closer to the exit door could soon become reality.

Stekelenburgs’ agent, Rob Jansen, did not confirm that Tottenham were one of the teams in talks with the goalkeeper and no word of interest has emerged from the Spurs side either, but that has not hampered the link between the two.

Personally I believe if we are in the market for a new goalkeeper, which has not yet been confirmed by new manager AVB or any senior figures at the club, it should be a more high profile player who is recognised for having real quality. The source of this link must also be questioned as it isn’t exactly unheard of for Tottenham to be linked to every player under the sun who’s agent says they want a move and with a established number 1 already at the club and a decent back up in Cudicini, I don’t think the goalkeeper position is one AVB and Levy should be making a priority to strengthen if the rumours are true.

Come On You Spurs.
