‘Maybe he won’t want to be part of things’ – Ange Postecoglou speaks on Ndombele’s future

Ange Postecoglou has said that he has been pleased with what he has seen from Tanguy Ndombele in the first week of pre-season training but admitted that it is unclear what the future holds for the Frenchman.

Last week, we relayed a report from the print edition of L’Equipe (05/07/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), which claimed that Tottenham had turned down an offer of €20m (£17.1m) from Napoli for Ndombele at Postecoglou’s behest.

The report added that the Australian is a ‘long-time admirer’ of the former Lyon man and he ‘intends to leave a space’ in his 4-3-3 formation for the player if he makes a good impression during pre-season.

This was also backed up by Dan Kilpatrick, who wrote in The Evening Standard a few days ago that there is ‘fresh optimism’ at Hotspur Way that Ndombele can resurrect his Tottenham career.

Ange Postecoglou speaks about Tanguy Ndombele’s future

However, Postecoglou has refused to give too much away about his plans for the 26-year-old, remarking in his first press conference that the midfielder might decide that he does not want to be part of the new regime.

The new Spurs head coach said (via Football.London): “Tanguy has been good. He’s been working hard in training as they all have because they’ve got no choice! I take things as I see them. He was part of a Serie A-winning side last season and he’s been working well.

“Within that context, I’m pleased to have him here and part of the group. What that means for the long-term we’ll see. Maybe he won’t want to be part of things.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is too early for Postecoglou to form a definitive opinion on Ndombele, having seen him train for just one week. The Australian will likely put off his decision about the Frenchman until he has taken a closer look at him during the upcoming pre-season games in Asia and Australia.

Ndombele is certainly off to a better start to this season than the last under Antonio Conte where he was frozen out of the club’s pre-season plans.
