Midfielder linked with Spurs switch sees his future at current club

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be active in this summer’s transfer market after going through the previous two windows without adding any new players to their squad.

Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo has been attracting interest from Spurs with The Mirror reporting that the North London side were weighing up a £40million bid for the teenager.

Zaniolo only arrived at Roma ten months ago when he made the switch as part of the transfer which saw Belgian international Radja Nainggolan move to Inter Milan.

Tottenham are not the only club said to be interested in the 19-year-old with the report claiming that Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich have all been keen to secure his services.

The player has already stated that he is keen to remain with the Serie A giants and has four years left to run on his existing deal in the Italian capital.

He was quoted by the Mirror as saying: “It is always pleasing to have interest from great teams. But all I am focused on in this moment is seeing out the season with Roma.

“I still have four years left on my contract, and I am happy here. I see my future at Roma, but my agent will talk to the club at the end of the season.”

Opinion

Tottenham are likely to look to recruit a midfielder this summer after the departure of Mousa Dembele coupled with the injury records of Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier certainly put a strain on Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks in the middle of midfield.

While Zaniolo is regarded as a bright talent, Spurs would be better off focusing on a more experienced player.
