Moussa Sissoko’s season in stats; the remarkable transformation of the midfielder

Moussa Sissoko certainly did not enjoy the best of times following his then club record £30 million move from Newcastle United in 2016 (Sky Sports).

Such was the effect it had on the player, he was left out of the French side which went on to World Cup glory in Russia last summer.

The midfielder has been one of Tottenham’s brightest performers this season and has played regularly following the departure of Mousa Dembele coupled with the injury issues the likes of Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama have encountered.

He has consistently shown why the club were prepared to go out and spend big money on him with a number of energetic box to box performances.

Sissoko has spoken previously of his preference to play in the middle of midfield and the importance of undergoing his first full pre-season with Spurs since making the move south (Telegraph).

It is certainly a testament to the character of Sissoko to go from a scapegoat among the supporters to that of a cult hero.

Moussa Sissoko’s 2018/19 Premier League season:

29 appearances
2337 minutes played
50 tackles attempted
36 tackles won
