No Toby talks

Despite the ongoing speculation that Tottenham Hotspur central defender Toby Alderweireld could be set for a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United, no talks have even taken place according to Football London.

The Belgian international’s current deal ends in 2019, with Tottenham having an option to extend it by a further year. However should the club take up that option, it would mean that he could leave the club for just £25 million should a bid be received in the last two weeks of next summer’s transfer window.

It is rumoured that Tottenham have offered Alderweireld a £130,000-a-week contract, which would make him the joint top earner at the club along with Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris, however he is said to be demanding around £180,000-a-week which puts him well outside Daniel Levy’s current wage structure.

With Alderweireld now on international duty with Belgium at the World Cup, no further news on any future contract talks would be expected until after the conclusion of the tournament on July 15th.

Should Toby depart, Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has been earmarked as Tottenham’s main transfer target to replace the 29-year-old.
