Opinion: Michel Vorm’s Spurs return – A great story swept under the carpet

In light of Jose Mourinho’s sacking, along with the rest of his staff, Ryan Mason was tasked with taking charge of Spurs until the end of the season.

Mason and his staff, Chris Powell, Nigel Gibbs, and Ledley King will be joined by former Spurs player Michel Vorm. While Vorm may have been an unexpected choice, he has always held a passion for the club.

With Jose’s sacking, the European Super League, Mason taking charge, and the Carabao Cup Final defeat, little was ever made of Vorm’s return.

The Dutchman’s passion developed over the 37-year-old’s six years with Spurs. In that six years, Vorm witnessed some of the club’s greatest successes of the ENIC era. From our title charges of 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 to the magical UCL run of the 2018-2019 season.

That passion was visible after Spurs’ 2-2 draw against Chelsea in 2016 – The match where the club were officially knocked out of the title race.

It was reported that it took FOUR members of Spurs backroom staff to hold the Dutchman back from going after Cesc Fabregas in the tunnel after the match.

The shot-stopped even returned to Spurs in their time of need after they had initially released him at the end of his contract, staying on for another season.

Vorm has clearly kept the club close to his heart, even after retiring as he was pictured with the Amsterdam Spurs less than a week ago.

Hopefully, Michel still has that fire in his heart and can help lead this new look Spurs!
