Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 4-0 victory over Leeds United

Tottenham Hotspur were back to winning ways this afternoon, and in some style, as they defeated Leeds United 4-0 at Elland Road.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 6.5 – Despite Tottenham’s dominance, Lloris was far from a spectator. He had a few saves to make throughout the game and put himself in harm’s way too. However, he also had a moment of madness in the second half and nearly gave Leeds a free goal.

Matt Doherty – 9 – This is the Doherty Tottenham thought they were signing. A right-wing-back who arrives late in the box and gets goals and assists. Really happy for him.

Cristian Romero – 8 – Fantastic 1v1 defending as usual. Takes a few chances at the back but that is part of his allure really. Needs to work on his set-piece marking though as he almost handed Leeds a goal in the opening minutes.

Eric Dier – 8 – A superb commanding display in the centre of the box. Leeds were piling so many men forward and chances were going to come but Dier stood strong out there.

Ben Davies – 8 – Not an easy job to deal with Raphinha but I though Davies did really well to defend the left side while also offering an outlet in attack. Great block to save Hugo Lloris in the second half.

Ryan Sessegnon – 9 – His best display in a Tottenham shirt yet. A constant threat down the left with some superb crosses, including his assist. Almost got a goal too!

Harry Winks – 8 – Battled really well in the engine room today. Leeds always try to outwork you and run you off the pitch but Winks got stuck in and was also neat and tidy in possession. His pass in behind made Tottenham’s opener.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 8 – Much the same as Winks really. He put his foot in when needed but also used the ball extremely well, as shown by his fabulous ball over the top to assist Harry Kane.

Dejan Kulusevski – 8.5 – This guy is starting to look like a class signing. The left foot off the right not only gives Spurs a goal threat, as seen by his superb strike, but it also allowed Doherty to overlap at will.

Heung-min Son – 8.5 – A very underrated performance. Leeds tried to man-mark him out the game with Luke Ayling so Son dragged the defender into the centre of the pitch to give Sessegnon acres of space. Son still managed to get his goal too!

Harry Kane – 10 – A typical Harry Kane performance. Not only was he dropping into the holes and pinging passes all over the shop, but he still got in the box to create a goal threat of his own. Superbly taken goal for Spurs’ third and a perfect assist. World-class.

Substitutes:

Emerson Royal – 6 – Good energy and some great runs in behind but he should have scored when Kane put him through.

Steven Bergwijn – 6 – Some lovely solo runs after coming on but you feel he had tunnel vision about getting a goal for himself at times.

Dane Scarlett – N/A
