Serie A expert and Eurosport journalist, Siavoush Fallahi spoke to The Spurs Web this week about exactly what Tottenham will get from new signing, Ivan Perisic. Here’s what he had to say:
“Ivan Perisic started as a left winger but in the last two seasons, he’s been a great left wing back at Inter.
“After his loan spell at Bayern, he came back to Inter with a different mentality and Antonio Conte, who first didn’t believe in Perisic as LWB, changed his opinion and installed the Croatian in the position.
“Perisic had his best season at Inter last season with Simone Inzaghi and did a great job both in defence and offence. He’s become an attacking threat while being very reliable in defence which is rare for an attacking player.
“Perisic has many rare skills but what stands out with him is the perfect physique he has. He’s 186 cm tall, a perfect athlete and if he didn’t become an elite football player he’d probably excel in another sport.
“On top of that, he’s both fast and technically skilled. He’s as good with his left foot as his right foot which makes him unpredictable on the left wing as he can both cross with his left or cut in and take a shot with his right foot.
“In Perisic Tottenham gets a player that will guarantee quantity and quality. He’ll both do the extra mile in defence as well as scoring goals in attack and getting assists.
“In Antonio Conte’s system, the wingbacks are very important and you’ll probably see many goals from wing back to wing back, Perisic will add to that and even if it hurts for Inter to lose Perisic, I think he’ll be great at Spurs and the reason he left was a new challenge.
“He’s won in Germany with Wolfsburg, Dortmund and Bayern. He’s won at Inter and now he wants to win with Spurs to add to that.
“His winning mentality has made a difference at Inter and many times while teammates are celebrating goals or victories Perisic is seen giving tactical instructions.
“It’s true he’s almost 33 years old, but if he keeps his physical status as good as he has these last seasons he’ll be a great asset for Spurs in the coming season.”
