Peter Crouch makes Postecoglou and Harry Kane prediction for Spurs this year

Peter Crouch has said that Tottenham fans should not burden Ange Postecoglou with too much expectation in his first season at the helm and insisted that he cannot see Harry Kane being at the club at the start of the 2023-24 season.

The former Tottenham striker insisted that he was a fan of the Postecoglou appointment and backed the Australian to deliver exciting football in North London.

Crouch told Paddy Power (as relayed by Football.London): “Ange Postecoglou is a decent appointment for Spurs. A lot of Tottenham fans have been a bit underwhelmed by it, but I watched Celtic last year, and they will get exciting football at least with the new manager.

“They are miles short of where they want to be though. It wouldn’t matter what manager you bring in – that squad needs improving and has done for a while, so I’m not sure the expectations this season should be very high, unfortunately.

“What they will get is a bit more attacking football with Postecoglou in charge.”

Crouch thinks Harry Kane will be sold this summer

However, the 42-year-old predicted that Kane would not be able to resist the lure of joining either Real Madrid or Manchester United this summer, insisting that the England captain will not want to stick around for another rebuild at Spurs.

Crouch continued: “Tottenham should always be aiming for Europe, but if they lose Harry Kane and don’t replace him correctly then they are going to have another tough season.

“And I can’t see him staying. I mean, he scored 30 goals last year in a really struggling side. If Real Madrid or Manchester United come along it’ll be difficult to say no.

“Think about Luka Modric when he went to Madrid. He was turning 27 that September and he’s won 22 trophies since. Harry Kane’s just a bit older but still has plenty of time to win things there.

“The Premier League goalscoring record might be in his mind too, so Man United might appeal to him more, but there’s a big rebuilding project at Spurs needed, so he might think this is his time to go.”

However, reports continue to indicate that Daniel Levy does not want to let Kane go, with journalist Ben Jacobs telling The United Stand that the Spurs chairman could force the striker to stay at the club for one more year in the hope that he might fall in love with Postecoglou’s management.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think anyone can make a confident prediction one way or the other regarding Kane’s future at the moment as Levy has shown time and again that he sticks to his guns.

However, one can certainly argue that it would be in Tottenham’s best interest to sell the striker to Real Madrid and use the funds to rebuild the squad rather than allowing him to leave for a free next summer.
