Pochettino provides update on whether Danny Rose is available to face Dortmund

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that it is impossible for Danny Rose to start in tomorrow’s Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund.

The left-back sustained a gash on his shin during the second half of the 3-1 victory against Leicester City on Sunday.

Rose missed Tottenham’s training session at Hotspur Way earlier today due to the cut and at best will be named among the substitutes for the fixture at Wembley.

Spurs are already without the services of their other experienced left back in Ben Davies, the Welshman has missed the last few matches with a groin problem and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

The news will mean that Jan Vertonghen is likely to start at left-back, with Toby Alderweireld partnering Davinson Sanchez at the heart of the Spurs defence.

Rose’s absence from the starting line-up poses a huge blow for Mauricio Pochettino’s side given his form in recent weeks which has been a throwback to his displays of two seasons ago.

Pochettino confirmed the news to Football.London at the pre-Dortmund press conference. He said: “Impossible for him to start but will assess tomorrow if he’s available to be on the bench.”
