Postecoglou says he is really pleased by what he has noticed behind the scenes amid injury crisis

Ange Postescoglou has insisted that the injuries that Tottenham Hotspur are dealing with will not stop them from trying to play their football and win matches, admitting that he has been impressed with the attitude of the players.

Just when it looked like the worst of Tottenham’s injury crisis was behind them, the club now face once again face the prospect of being without a whole host of key players over the coming weeks.

Cristian Romero is the latest to be sidelined for four to five weeks with a hamstring problem, joining the long-term absentees, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ivan Perisic, Monor Solomon, and Ryan Sessegnon, on the treatment table.

Additionally, Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Son Heung-min will also be unavailable next month due to the African Cup of Nations and the Asian Cup.

Tottenham injuries will not be used as an excuse

However, Postecoglou was philosophical about the situation, insisting that he and his players just have to get on with the job at hand.

When asked if it is frustrating to lose some key players just as others return, the Spurs head coach told Football.London: “It is what it is. Someone was saying [to me] before, ‘When all these players come back…’, and I was saying, ‘It never works that way’. I’m not the only one, you can see other clubs going through it as well.

“We’ve been going through it for quite a while to be fair but I really like the attitude everyone’s taking internally – the coaches and players. We’ve still been disappointed with our losses, still been disappointed if we’re not playing our football. That’s the most important thing.

“I’m sure there’ll come a point when we will be much healthier in terms of our playing stocks but I like the fact we’re winning games and playing decent football without some of those players.

“For them, it’s good to see the team winning and hopefully motivating them to come back but also makes them realise it’s something I want to be a part of. So it is what it is, we’ve just got to get on with it.

“It’s another challenge for us this week with two games in a short space of time and a smallish squad available but we’ll tackle it like we’ve tackled everything else.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This type of attitude from Ange is quite refreshing and will filter down to the players. Some of the previous managers we have had liked moaning about the injuries and suspensions, which certainly would not have helped the confidence of those coming into the team.
