Postecoglou says Spurs need to go through the tough times to carve a path to glory

Speaking to the press ahead of the weekend’s game against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur boss, Ange Postecoglou, discussed the challenges of the role in light of suffering three defeats on the bounce.

Tottenham fell to a dismal 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night, but they must go again on Sunday with a trip to Anfield to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side.

The result against Chelsea comes on the back of two other Premier League defeats: a 3-2 loss against Arsenal in the North London derby last weekend, and a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle before that.

Spurs are still fifth in the league and look destined for Europa League football next season, but clearly, the team has a long way to go to be where Ange Postecoglou wants them to be.

Ange Postecoglou thinks Spurs can grow from the tough times

With a new playing style to implement and new signings still needed this summer, Postecoglou is aware of the challenge that lies ahead, and is determined not to let this rough patch stand in the way of development.

When asked about the recent struggles and how he is reacting to them, he told Football.London: “It’s not a concern. It’s part of the process. As I said, it’s where we’re at.

“You need to understand when there is change, it’s not easy, it’s not smooth and it’s not supposed to be. If you’re really going to build for success, you need to go through tough times. You don’t go out trying to fashion them, you don’t create the tough times on purpose but you have to go through them.

“If someone can show me a team that hasn’t been through a tough spell when they’re building something, I would be very surprised because it’s a necessary part of the process.”

I think this recent slump is a combination of various factors. One being that the players have run out of steam a little bit and we just need the summer to come around so we can get the new players in and go again. But, it’s important to remember that these three defeats have come against top sides, too.
