Pundit says Tottenham player has brought the best out of his teammates

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks is currently having the best season of his career. The 23-year-old has managed to overcome the injury troubles that had plagued him for the last two seasons, has become an ever-present in Pochettino’s line ups.

The Englishman is primarily being employed in a deeper position where he helps win the ball and start off attacks. Former Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham feels that Winks’s ability to do the dirty work has benefited the attacking midfielders at Tottenham.

Speaking to Football Center on Sky Sports News, the 40-year-old said , “With Harry Winks playing all the time, I think it has brought the best out of other players, teams find themselves in difficult positions in who to try and close down.

“Is it Eriksen or is it Winks? Winks can dictate from deep.”

Higginbotham also added that since multiple people are preoccupied with marking Eriksen, the 23-year-old has also been able to enjoy a lot more space.

He said, “They [the opposition] are dropping off because they are fearful about Eriksen.

“They are allowing Winks to have the ball in a deep position because they have to make sure they have players in the area that if Eriksen gets on the ball, they can stop him.

“But that allows Winks to dominate, get on the ball and get on the front foot. It has benefited Winks and it has benefited Eriksen as well.”

With Dembele having left the club, Winks seems to have stepped up and become the midfield general. If Winks continues displaying the same consistency in the coming games, there is no doubt that he will go on to become a pivotal part of the Spurs and England midfield.
