Pundit urges Arsenal to sign someone like Tottenham’s 21-year-old star

Former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke has called on the Gunners to sign someone of the profile of Desinty Udoige this summer.

While Udogie arrived at Spurs on the back of two impressive seasons at Udinese in Serie A, not too many people would have expected the youngster to perform as well as he has in his debut Premier League campaign.

The Italian looks built for English football, given his athleticism and his physicality and despite being signed under Antonio Conte to play as a wing-back, he has adapted brilliantly to the demands of the inverted full-back role.

The 21-year-old’s season ended prematurely two weeks ago when he suffered a quadriceps injury but the Tottenham man has deservedly made the six-player shortlist for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award.

Arsenal need a player exactly like Destiny Udogie

Clarke believes that Udogie is exactly the kind of player that Mikel Arteta’s men have to go out and sign during the upcoming transfer window.

Discussing Arsena’s requirements, the pundit told Handbrake Off Podcast “I would go for a left-footed defender, someone quick, someone rounded, I don’t know who this player is. Someone like the Spurs kid Destiny Udogie, I think that’s what we lack, someone who defends, can invert and can fly forwards.”

There are not too many players like Udogie available in the market, which is why Paratici deserves immense credit for identifying the youngster and jumping on him before he emerged on the radar of other clubs.

One can argue that the Italian’s capture of Pape Sarr was an even better decision, with Tottenham essentially plucking the midfielder out of obscurity.
