Report: Bayern Munich could win race for defender despite Spurs and Man Utd links

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Kim Min-jae is now ‘close’ to agreeing personal terms with Bayern Munich ahead of a potential move to the Allianz Arena.

Kim has understandably emerged as one of the hottest properties of the summer transfer window on the back of his outstanding debut season in the Serie A where he played a pivotal role in Napoli’s Scudetto success.

The centre-back is said to have a release clause of €50m (£43m) in his contract, which is valid from July 1 to July 15 (GIFN).

It was reported by journalist Francesco Modugno earlier this month (as relayed by Spazio Napoli) that Tottenham were willing to pay the aforementioned clause but the player was not too keen on a switch to the North London club.

Until a few days ago, Manchester United appeared to be in the driving seat for Kim, with Il Mattino even suggesting earlier this week that the centre-back was expected to complete a move to Old Trafford by the start of July.

Spurs look to have no hope in Kim Min-jae race

However, if Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Bayern are now trying to hijack the Red Devils’ move for the 26-year-old.

The journalist revealed that the Bavarians have presented their project to the Napoli star, who is ‘tempted’ by the prospect of joining the Bundesliga giants.

It is now quite evident that Tottenham do not stand a chance of winning the race for Kim, which is unsurprising, given that we cannot offer the centre-back Champions League football.

The Lilywhites have seemingly already turned their attention to other central defenders such as Harry Maguire, Marc Geuhi and Aymeric Laporte.
