Report: Club director admits it is no secret Spurs-linked defender is keen to leave

Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach has admitted that Robin Koch is keen to leave the Bundesliga club ahead of next season.

The 24-year-old is now in the final year of his contract with Freiburg and will not sign a new deal, which means he could leave as a free agent at the end of the next campaign if the German side do not decide to cash in (Football.London).

Kicker claimed last month that Koch is attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, Benfica and Sporting.

Fellow German side RB Leipzig were reportedly close to signing Koch in January, but they have now withdrawn from the race and revealed last week that Dayot Upamecano had penned an extension until 2023.

Hartenbach revealed that Koch wants to take the next step in his career after spending the last three years at Freiburg.

Capable of playing as a centre-back and in defensive midfield, Koch has made a total of 82 Bundesliga appearances for Freiburg, scoring five goals and providing two assists (transfermarkt).

“It’s no secret that Robin would like to take the next step,” Hartenbach told transfermarkt while also insisting that Koch will only leave if the conditions are right for the club.
