Report: Everton could have edge over Spurs in race for transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur could find themselves behind Everton in the race to sign Roma’s Cengiz Under.

It was reported by Bleacher Report that Tottenham have already made contact over a possible deal to bring the Turkish international to North London in the January transfer window.

The winger is said to have fallen out with Roma manager Paulo Fonseca and the club have already begun to look for replacements.

News of Under’s availability has put clubs around Europe on alert of his availability with the Serie A side valuing the 22-year-old at €40 million.

Any hope which Spurs have of bringing Under to the club could be hampered by fellow Premier League side Everton.

The report claims that Under’s representatives made contact with a number of clubs last summer and a move to Everton to work under new boss Carlo Ancelotti would be a good fit.

Under has made just seven appearances in Serie A for Roma this season, scoring once. His only goal came in the opening day draw with Genoa (transfermarkt).

Opinion

Spurs are crying out for natural width in their team and are guilty of trying to play through the middle far too often rather than stretch a defence.

Under would add another dimension to our attack but will not be short of interest if he is to leave Italy.
