Report: How Tottenham’s homegrown numbers look ahead of transfer window

Football.London have revealed that following the exit of Lucas Moura, Arnuat Danjuma and Clement Lenglet, Tottenham will now be at the limit of 17 non-homegrown players in their senior squad.

A player has to have spent three seasons registered with an English or Welsh club before his 21st birthday to be considered ‘homegrown’ in the Premier League.

All 20 teams are only allowed to name a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players in the 25-man squad that they submit to the Premier League, with at least eight having to be homegrown.

In addition, all teams are also allowed to name an Under-21s list, thus meaning that players born before January 1 2002 (for the 2023-24 season) need not be named in the 25-man squad.

Assuming Tottenham take the option to sign Dejan Kulusevski permanently, the following list of players are the non-homegrown ones in the squad:

Hugo Lloris, Emerson Royal, Pedro Porro, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, Sergio Reguilon, Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Son Heung-min, Bryan Gil, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski.

So that leaves the Lilwhites right at the limit of 17 non-homegrown players but with the likes of Hugo Lloris, Davinson Sanchez, Ivan Perisic and Sergio Reguilon expected to depart (Evening Standard), the club will likely have some room to bring in non-homegrown signings this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur’s homegrown list

Here is the North London club’s current homegrown list: Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman, Japhet Tanganga, Ben Davies, Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Ryan Sessegnon, Harvey White, Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp, Harry Kane.

The likes of Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr, Alfie Devine, and Dane Scarlett can be named in the Under-21s list if they stay at Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs do not need to worry about the non-homegrown players in Europe next season as the rules are different to the Premier League, which has been a source of headache for various Tottenham managers over the past few years.

While we currently have 12 homegrown players, one would expect the likes of Tanganga, Sessegnon, Rodon and Winks to leave while Austin and Spence might be loaned out.

That explains why Spurs are thought to be looking at homegrown options this summer such as Pickford, Maguire, Maddison, Guehi, Kilman and Ward-Prowse.
