Report: Levy has ‘isolated himself’ as he faces ‘worst’ crisis in his Spurs era

According to The Telegraph, sources have labelled Daniel Levy’s current predicament at Tottenham as the worst crisis that he has faced in his more than two decades in charge of the club.

Spurs were rocked yesterday by the news that Fabio Paratici’s 30-month ban from Italian football, which was handed to him following Juventus’ capital gains trail back in January, had been extended to all leagues across the world (Sky Sports News).

The club thus reportedly have no choice but to part ways with their managing director of football if the appeal, which will be heard on April 19, is unsuccessful (The Guardian).

The Telegraph have now explained that Paratici’s 30-month ban stretches across all football-related and administrative activities.

That means that the 50-year-old can no longer play any part in Tottenham’s search for a new manager, in player transfers, or in contract negotiations.

The report adds that some sources rate this as the worst crisis Levy has faced in his tenure as a Spurs chairman.

In addition to the Paratici fiasco, both the men’s and women’s teams do not have a permanent manager, Kane’s future remains in doubt and the club still have not found a naming rights partner.

A source is quoted in the report as saying: “This is by far the worst it has ever been for Levy.

“On top of all the problems that are obvious for everyone to see, staff morale levels are at an all-time low and Levy has isolated himself. It’s a mess.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This is certainly a crisis and one that Levy and the club’s hierarchy should bear responsibility for. However, I would take some of the reports about Levy and the board with a pinch of salt.

Levy and the Spurs directors have taken a pay hike when the reality is that they took a substantial cut during the pandemic, and are now back to earning pre-pandemic levels after the crisis has been averted.

The stadium naming rights not being sold is far from a crisis. It is clear that the club do not want to settle for anything short of a world-record figure, and the club’s finances are certainly not in bad shape at the moment.
