Report: Man United are closely watching attacker linked with Spurs recently

Sky Germany have revealed that Manchester United are now plotting a potential move for Bayern Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, who has been mooted as a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Wirtz has emerged as one of the best young players in the Bundesliga over the last couple of years and he has now established himself as a regular in the German national team.

The 20-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or on either flank, has scored six goals and provided 10 assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season (Transfermarkt).

Tottenham’s interest in the player came to light last month when TEAMtalk reported that the Lilywhites are one of several clubs watching the young attacker.

The print edition of Mundo Deportivo (as relayed by Sport Witness) then reported a couple of weeks ago that Spurs and Arsenal were leading the race for the youngster’s signature.

Man Utd enter the picture for Florian Wirtz

Sky Germany have now claimed that Wirtz is now ‘being closely watched’ by Man Utd, whose scouts have travelled to Germany to run the rule over the youngster.

It is explained, however, that the Red Devils have not made a contract with the player’s entourage or Leverkusen. The report adds that Xabi Alonso’s men hope to hang on to Wirtz until 2025 and that they value him at a whopping €120m (£104m).

Bayern Munich are also thought to hold an interest in the German international but the Bavarian side are allegedly not willing to meet Leverkusen’s asking price.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Tottenham stand any chance of winning the race for Wirtz’s signature as his value is only going to increase even further ahead of next summer. The 20-year-old is likely to end up being the most expensive export in Bundesliga history.
