Report: Player who left Spurs in 2021 now on verge of move to Greece

The Sun have revealed that former Tottenham left-back Danny Rose is on the verge of completing a shock transfer to AEK Athens.

Rose spent 14 seasons at Spurs after arriving at the club from Leeds United as a teenager back in 2007 and left the North London club as a free agent when his contract ran out in 2021.

The England international penned a two-year contract with Watford last summer but his move to Vicarage Road did not go as planned as he made just nine appearances over the course of last season (Transfermarkt).

The 32-year-old played his last game for the Hornets in December before falling out of favour with Claudio Ranieri.

Despite still being contracted d to Watford, Rose trained at Hotspur Way this summer to get fit ahead of the new campaign (Watford Observer).

The Championship confirmed on transfer deadline day that they had reached an agreement with the left-back to terminate his contract.

If The Sun’s latest report is to be believed, Rose is now close to making a move to Greece.

The report states that the former Tottenham man is ‘on the verge’ of signing for AEK Athens after verbally agreeing to join the club.

The publication claims that the experienced full-back is set to sign a one-year contract at the Agia Sophia Stadium and he could even complete the transfer in time to make his debut against Panetolikos on Saturday.

Spurs Web Opinion

Rose is in the twilight of his career and he does appear to have lost some of his hunger to play football at the highest level. So, he probably views this as a good opportunity to experience a new culture.

There is a tinge of sadness with the way Rose’s career has unravelled over the last three or four years as he seemed to have the world at his feet in 2017 and arguably was one of the best left-backs in the world at the time.

In fact, I thought the 32-year-old was more important for Pochettino’s Spurs than Kyle Walker from 2014 to 2017 but their careers have gone on completely different trajectories since.
