Report: Report: Spurs prepared to use Alderweireld as bait to land transfer target

Tottenham Hotspur dipped into the transfer market on Monday for the first time in over 500 days.

There are likely to be more incomings and outgoings at Hotspur Way before the end of the summer transfer window.

One player who gets his fair share of newspaper headlines is Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian defender is available for just £25 million this summer up until the last two weeks of the transfer window due to a contract release clause which was activated when Spurs took up the option extend his deal by a further twelve months earlier in the season.

Reports in Italy have claimed that Spurs have offered Roma a £21 million transfer fee plus Toby Alderweireld in exchange for their midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo (Corriere Dello Sport).

The Italian scored goals in 34 Serie A and Champions League appearances last season.

If the report is to be believed the offer would equate to just under £41 million based on Alderweireld’s availability at £25 million but will have to complete the deal before July 25th; when the transfer release clause expires.
