Report: Rob Mackenzie’s role at Spurs will be different than previously thought

Football Insider have claimed that Rob Mackenzie will join Tottenham Hotspur as their new head of recruitment rather than as the chief scout.

Following Johan Lange’s appointment as Spurs’ technical director, it emerged last week that Mackenzie, who worked under the Dane as Aston Villa’s head of recruitment, would follow him to the North London club (Matt Law).

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed a few days ago that the Englishman will join as the club’s chief scout, explaining that he is renowned for his ability to unearth gems and for employing analytics to do so.

Gold also added that Tottenham’s acquisition of Mackenzie is viewed as a major coup within the industry, given the work he has done at Villa and Leicester City.

Tottenham are restructuring the club from the top

However, if Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, the 38-year-old is set to become the head of recruitment at Spurs rather than just replacing Leonardo Gabbanini as the chief scout.

The outlet adds that Mackenzie will officially begin his role next week after Spurs reached a full agreement with Villa.

With Scott Munn joining as the chief footballing officer, Johan Lange’s role at Spurs is not going to be as broad as Fabio Paratici’s was, with the Dane, in essence, working as the head of the recruitment department. So, I tend to believe Gold’s assertion that Mackenzie will join as chief scout.
