Report: Sky make claim about Tottenham’s January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Jose Mourinho as their new head coach after sacking Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday night.

The Portuguese left Manchester United, his most recent post, in December 2018, having won the Europa League and Carabao Cup, but failed to restore the Old Trafford outfit to the former glory they enjoyed under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sky Sports are reporting that Mourinho has been promised money to spend in the January transfer window should he feel it is necessary.

He is said to believe that the current Spurs squad is strong, but will have transfer funds at his disposal.

Mourinho spent over £400million on eleven players during his time at Manchester United, recruiting the likes of Paul Pogba, Fred, Lee Grant, Alexis Sanchez and Diego Dalot (Mirror).

In July, Jack Clarke became Tottenham’s first signing in over 500 days after failing to sign any fresh faces in the two previous windows under Pochettino.

The Argentine warned of a painful rebuild back in May (Standard) but after a tough start to the new campaign, he was sacked by Daniel Levy (BBC).
