Report: Spurs believe transfer target is heading elsewhere

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are reported to have this week both met with the agent of Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes (according to yesterday’s Correio da Manha).

The 24-year-old’s agent Miguel Pinho was said to be in the UK to try and speed up the midfielder’s departure from Sporting.

According to The Sun (21 June, page 56), Spurs are of the opinion that Fernandes is on his way to Old Trafford.

Sky Sports reported yesterday that the North London side have decided to cool their interest in the Sporting captain due to a potential bidding war with the Portuguese side valuing their star asset at over £65million.

His remarkable campaign saw the attacking midfielder score 32 goals for his side last season and provided 18 assists in his 53 matches

Instead, it looks as if Spurs are focusing their attention elsewhere for a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen with Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso still said to be high on their summer shopping list (BBC).

Opinion

Spurs are right not to be embroiled in a bidding war if they feel they can secure the services of a similar player for a better fee – it looks as if Levy could be up to his old tricks again.
