Report: Spurs currently view 51-year-old manager’s appointment as ‘unrealistic’

The Daily Mail have revealed that despite Spurs fans clamouring for Mauricio Pochettino to come back, the club are not considering a move for the Argentine.

There have been contradictory claims made by various outlets over the last few weeks regarding who the favourite to replace Antonio Conte is but the one thing they all seem to agree on is that it is not going to be Pochettino.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that the Lilywhites have not even contacted their former boss about the possibility of coming back to the club even though he would be open to a fairytale return.

Dean Jones subsequently told GiveMeSport on April 8 Daniel Levy is ‘not as hot’ on Pochettino as he once was, even though the Argentine remains open-minded about his next job.

In fact, the former Spurs manager looks more likely to end up at Chelsea than N17, with The Telegraph revealing a couple of days ago that the Blues have already made contact with the 51-year-old and are set to hold further talks over the coming days and weeks.

The Mail have now revealed that Pochettino remains ‘the preferred candidate’ of a number of players in the Tottenham squad.

However, the publication plays down the chances of him returning, stating simply that Spurs consider the move to be ‘unrealistic’.

It was clear that Fabio Paratici was the one who was put in charge of the managerial search and that the Italian did not fancy Pochettino.

However, now that the 50-year-old has resigned, there might be some renewed hope for Spurs fans who are desperate for the Argentine to come back.
