Report: Spurs linked-midfielder offered to Arsenal in £9m swap deal

Tottenham Hotspur were heavily linked with a loan move last summer for Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho only for a deal to fail to materialise (BBC).

The Brazilian ended up spending the season on loan at Bayern Munich with the Bundesliga giants deciding against making the deal permanent.

The Independent report that North London rivals Arsenal and Spurs have both been approached by Barcelona, with it suggested that the Gunners are the more likely to reach a deal.

The Nou Camp outfit could take out of favour Matteo Guendouzi along with a £9million fee, while Coutinho heads to Arsenal on a permanent deal.

Spurs have been linked with a move for Coutinho, 28, in recent months with a season-long loan deal (Football Insider) as well as a permanent transfer (Sport) both suggested as possibilities.

Daniel Levy is said to prefer to want to sign younger players this summer, especially given the likely unpredictability of the transfer market in light of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
