According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have decided not to take up the option to sign Carlos Vinicius permanently at the end of the season.
Spurs snapped up Vinicius from Benfica on a season-long loan deal last summer, with the North Londoners having the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the campaign.
The Brazilian has not had as many opportunities as he would have hoped for, with Jose Mourinho continuing to use him sparingly.
Although the striker has a decent goals-to-games ratio, with nine strikes in all competitions so far, most of those goals have come against sub-par opposition in the Europa League and FA Cup.
Football Insider now claim that Spurs have no plans of activating the option to buy Vinicius for £38m.
The report reveals that the prospect of negotiating a lower fee with Benfica for the 25-year-old has also been ruled out by the club.
The striker is thus expected to return to Benfica when his loan spell comes to an end in a couple of months.

The fact that Spurs have been linked with several forwards including the likes of Danny Ings and Patson Daka over recent weeks suggests that the club are indeed looking at alternatives to Vinicius.
Based on how sparingly Jose has used him this season, it appears the Spurs boss and his coaching staff have not been convinced by what they have seen from the Brazilian in training.
