Report: Spurs will have to pay £50m to sign midfield target in January

The Sun have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur would have to pay £50m to land Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.

Several outlets have reported over the past week that Tottenham are expected to reignite their interest in Gallagher after Chelsea decided to put their academy graduate in the shop window (The Athletic).

Pochettino himself all but confirmed that the club are indeed listening to offers for the 23-year-old by revealing last Friday that while he has been happy with the midfielder’s performance, the decision on the player’s future is not up to him (The Independent).

It was reported by TEAMtalk a few days ago that a bid of around £40m might be enough to take the England international away from Stamford Bridge since he has just 18 months on his contract.

Chelsea want £50m for Conor Gallagher

While The Sun have now also confirmed that Gallagher has been transfer listed, they say that the Blues will not sell him for cheap, given that he has been an ‘important cog’ in Pochettino’s side.

It is alleged that Postecoglou’s men would have to part ways with £50m to bring the midfielder across London next month.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Tottenham will pass up on this opportunity to sign Gallagher as they would be aware that this might be their last chance and that the midfielder could sign a new contract at Chelsea if they miss out on him next month.

With Postecoglou himself seeming pushing the 23-year-old’s case, I expect Spurs to pay what is necessary to get the deal done, just as they did for Johnson, who was also evidently someone the Aussie coach himself had identified.
