Report: Spurs-linked player turns down new deal at Bundesliga club

RB Leipzig captain Marcel Sabitzer is reported to have rejected a new deal amid rumoured interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Sky Germany (as reported by Fussball Transfers) claim that the midfielder, who is under contract with the Bundesliga outfit until the end of next season (transfermarkt) has snubbed the opportunity to extend his stay at the Red Bull Arena.

Instead, Sabitzer is prepared to leave Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2022 unless the club are prepared to cash in on him in the summer in what could be one of their last opportunities to recoup a transfer fee.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Tottenham with the Evening Standard claiming late last month that the North Londoners had identified Sabitzer as one of their main transfer targets, although an approach could depend on Dele Alli’s future at the club.

Spurs could face competition from rivals Arsenal in the race for Sabitzer’s signature with journalist Julien Laurens recently claiming that the Gunners are “very keen” on the midfielder (ESPN’s The Gab & Juls Show).

Sabitzer is a quality player, but we need to be focusing our attention on signing another central defender and a creative player, I would much prefer to see Eriksen return to the club given his previous Premier League experience.
