Report: Tottenham hire former Man Utd chief to boost commercial growth

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Manchester United’s former chief strategy officer Hemen Tseayo as their new strategic development director according to a report from The Athletic.

Tseayo left United in the summer of 2022 after working with the club for over a decade.

He operated not only as chief strategy officer there, but also as director of corporate development and head of corporate finance.

Among Tseayo’s list of achievements at Manchester United is the fact he was integral to listing the club on the New York Stock Exchange in 2012.

He also orchestrated various refinancing deals for the club, and even carried out the planning and application process for the launch of Manchester United’s women’s team in 2018.

When Richard Arnold succeeded Ed Woodward as chief executive of the Old Trafford club and Matt Judge resigned from his role as director of football negotiations, Tseayo soon followed suit and left United in May of last year.

According to The Athletic, Tseayo actually started his work with Tottenham back in mid-November of 2022, in what is described as a “wide-ranging” role.

As strategic development director, Tseayo’s responsibilities include coordinating the data analyst teams, “helping the Premier League side improve their use of data to improve performance across the entire club.”

It is suggested that Tseayo will not be “directly involved in” any football operations.

He is there more to focus on commercial elements, including the aim of leading Spurs to greater “domestic and international growth.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This sounds like yet another prudent move by Spurs on a commercial front, which you would hope is good news for the club as a whole.

It’s just a shame that all we seem to hear about these days is the new deals being struck to bring more money into the club, rather than tangible evidence that we are making positive steps as a football team.
