Report: Tottenham Hotspur hit with double blow in search for new manager

Tottenham Hotspur could be hit with a double blow as they look for a new manager, with Chelsea thought to be the next destination for Julian Nagelsmann, and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi reluctant to leave his current role.

Since parting ways with Antonio Conte, Spurs are sticking with interim manager Cristian Stellini until the end of the season.

It is thought a number of managers have come forward regarding the vacant role at Tottenham (GiveMeSport).

At the same time, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is believed to have his own shortlist of potential new managers (Telegraph).

Among the names on Levy’s list, Brighton boss De Zerbi has been mentioned as a target (Telegraph) and it has been reported that the 43-year-old has a release clause in his contract which makes him more available by the end of the season (Fabrizio Romano).

Another name heavily linked with Spurs is Nagelsmann, who recently lost his job at Bayern Munich (Football Insider).

Now, Spurs are expected to be hit with a double dose of disappointment, as both De Zerbi and Nagelsmann appear to be unlikely to take the job in North London.

That’s according to a new report from talkSPORT, which claims Nagelsmann is edging closer to taking the vacant managerial role at Chelsea. Apparently, the 35-year-old sees Chelsea as the “more attractive proposition.”

Meanwhile, De Zerbi is thought to be more than happy at Brighton and is “fully focused” on his job with the Seagulls.

With this in mind, talkSPORT suggests Tottenham may look to Luis Enrique or Brendan Rodgers, who was recently sacked by Leicester City.

Spurs Web Opinion

We should have acted immediately when Julian Nagelsmann became available.

Instead, we’ve waited and now Chelsea are going to get their man, while we make do with Antonio Conte’s assistant until the end of the season.

It doesn’t make any sense, when we have so much to play for in trying to get the top four.
