Report: Tottenham youngster’s head has been turned by ‘last minute offer’

Belgian outlet Le Soir have revealed (as relayed by Walfoot) that Romaine Mundle’s move to Standard Liege is in doubt after Utrecht entered the race to sign the Tottenham academy graduate.

Mundle has been one of the standout players for Spurs in Premier League 2 this season, with seven goals and five assists to his name, but the winger’s future is in major doubt as his current deal in North London runs out in June (Transfermarkt).

It was reported by Voetbalkrant last month that the 20-year-old had refused a contract offered by Tottenham and was set to sign for Standard Liege after visiting the Belgian club and being ‘charmed’ by the tour of the club’s facilities.

However, if Le Soir’s latest update is to be believed, the move has now been thrown into doubt due to a ‘last-minute offer’ from Utrecht.

The report claims that Liege were close to sealing a deal to sign Mundle and ‘everything seemed in order’ for the attacker to join the club but things have now changed drastically.

This is because the winger ‘would be more interested’ in the idea of moving to the Eredivisie than the Jupiler Pro League.

The outlet adds that it would ‘leave a bitter taste’ in the mouths of the Belgian side should they miss out on Mundle.

Mundle evidently appears determined on making a move that would give him the best chance of playing first-team football as early as possible.

One cannot really blame the 20-year-old, who is following the footsteps of other English youngsters, who have been brave enough to make the jump to Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Belgium over recent years.
