Report: What Spurs may have to do if they want to sign Arne Slot as manager

De Telegraaf have revealed that the release clause in the contract of Tottenham managerial target, Arne Slot, can only be activated in the summer of 2024.

The speculation linking Slot with a move to Spurs has been intensifying over the past couple of weeks, with The Daily Star reporting a few days ago that the Dutch coach is now part of Tottenham’s four-man shortlist, which also consists of Julian Nagelsmann, Vincent Kompany and Thomas Frank.

When asked about the speculation last week, the 44-year-old refused to commit his future to Feyenoord beyond the end of the current season (1908.nl).

However, De Telegraaf explain that the release clause in Slot’s contract, which runs until 2025, will only become active at the end of next season.

That means that if Tottenham want to swoop for him this summer, they would have to negotiate compensation with Feyenoord.

It is explained that the Eredivisie club rejected an offer of €5m (£4.3m) for their head coach from Leeds United in January and could thus demand a higher fee from the likes of Spurs this summer.

The publication also suggests that Slot might be tempted to stay at Rotterdam for one more year in order to lead his Feyenoord side in next season’s Champions League.

Spurs Web Opinion

Negotiating a fee with Feyenoord will not be a problem for Spurs if the club decide to pursue Slot.

However, I think it is fairly unlikely that the Dutch coach would be the club’s top target, given his lack of experience in a top league.
