Report: What the Spurs players expect to happen with Conte this summer

The Athletic have revealed that there is a broad sense among the Tottenham players that Antonio Conte will leave the club at the end of the season.

Since Tottenham’s loss at Wolves on Saturday, an increasing number of reports have suggested that Conte’s time at the club looks set to end this summer.

The Daily Mail reported on Sunday that there is an increasing acceptance at the club that it is best for all parties to go their separate ways at the end of the season.

The Athletic have now revealed that even the Tottenham squad do not expect the 53-year-old to be in charge next season.

It is asserted that while some players will miss the Italian, many will not, having grown tired of his ‘intensity, training sessions and approach to the game’.

The report adds that many players at Spurs, as well as the club’s summer transfer targets, want some clarity about the situation so they have some idea about what the team will look like next season.

The Athletic add that the Tottenham hierarchy want to take control of the situation and already thinking about life after Conte as they do not want to ‘sleepwalk into a manager-less post-season’ as they did in 2021.

Spurs Web Opinion

Anyone who is still rooting for the Conte project to work is engaging in wishful thinking. The performances have not been good enough and it is clear that the marriage just has not worked.

I hope the club have learned their lessons from the Conte and Mourinho appointments and opted for a more progressive, possession-based coach who likes to press the opposition high up the pitch.
