Report: Why Mile Jedinak does not sit in the Spurs dugout with Postecoglou

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham’s assistant coach Mile Jedinak sits in the stands with the data analysts rather than in the dugout.

Jedinak, who was the captain of the Australian national team during Postecoglou’s stint as Socceroos manager, joined the 57-year-old’s coaching staff at Spurs during the summer following a spell as a youth coach and loan development coach at Aston Villa.

While the Australian has been seen putting the squad through the warm-ups pre-match, he has been missing in the dugout alongside Postecoglou, Ryan Masson, Chris Davies, and Matt Wells.

Gold has explained that this is because Jedinak has been sat up in the stands along with Spurs’ data analysts at the Gtech Community Stadium and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during the two matches so far.

The journalist states that the 39-year-old does this to get a better view of how both sides are set up so that he can pick up on some tactical nuances.

The former Crystal Palace midfielder then feeds the information back to the coaching staff to help inform Postecoglou’s decisions during the game or after it.

Spurs Web Opinion

The one thing that stands out about Tottenham’s coaching staff is that Mason, Jedinak, Wells and Davies are all in their thirties and would thus be able to relate better to the current generation of players.

In contrast, Conte’s coaching staff was almost a throwback to a decade or two ago in their management approach (but not in terms of their adherence to sports science and other advances). Their disciplinarian ethos perhaps did not resonate with the new generation of players.
