Rumoured Spurs target heading for clash with current club

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Anthony Martial is on course for a clash with Manchester United.

The 22-year-old who was left out of the French squad during their World Cup-winning campaign in Russia is according to The Guardian, determined to leave Old Trafford while boss Jose Mourinho wants to keep him at the club.

United hold all the aces here, as they can trigger a clause in the former Monaco player’s contract which will not only extend his deal by a further year until 2020, but would also allow them to command a higher transfer fee, if he is eventually sold.

Martial would be a fantastic signing for Tottenham, but let’s be realistic. Are we really going to spend in excess of £70 million on a player and Manchester United are hardly likely to want to sell to a Premier League rival.

He is expected to get a rare start in United’s Premier League opener against Leicester City due to the fact that Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku were heavily involved in the World Cup.

I’d be happier to keep Toby Alderweireld at the club and away from United, if it meant us missing out on Martial.
