‘Selection in depression’ – Colombian media react to Davinson Sanchez’s situation at Spurs

The Colombian media have been rather alarmed by Davinson Sanchez’s situation at Tottenham this season, with the central defender appearing to have fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho.

Sanchez has not played a single minute in the Premier League since Tottenham’s late collapse against West Ham back in September.

Mourinho’s decision to give the inexperienced Joe Rodon a start ahead of the former Ajax man against Chelsea on Sunday was the biggest indication yet that the 24-year-old does not have the Tottenham manager’s trust.

It is safe to say that the Colombian media are panicking somewhat at the nation’s prospects, particularly after the thrashing they received at the hands of Uruguay and Ecuador during the last international break.

A report from Marca Claro (as relayed by Sport Witness) discussed how Sanchez’s situation at Spurs has come as an even bigger blow for Carlos Queiroz’s side, whose chances of qualifying for the World Cup are already at risk.

It is said that the Colombia team is a ‘selection in depression’ and Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez is a big part of that, having been ‘erased’ by Mourinho.

The report suggests that, with the central defender now part of ‘Tottenham’s B team’, it would be difficult for him to find form ahead of future Colombia matches.
