Spurs announce signing of Zeki Fryers

Tottenham Hotspur have announced our first signing of the January transfer window with the capture of Zeki Fryers from Standard Liege.

Fryers who can operate as a left-back or centre-back was tipped to move to White Hart Lane in the summer from Manchester United but United could have asked for up to £6million in compensation as he was under the age of 23.

Interestingly, Spurs revealed in their press release that Fryers would be a joining as part of the Tottenham development squad. No fee has been disclosed, but reports have it at around £2-3million.

A statement on the official Spurs site read: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Standard Liege for the signing of Zeki Fryers.

“The young defender, capped by England at Under-16, 17 and 19 level, began his career at Manchester United before joining Standard Liege last summer.
