Spurs crash out of yet another competition

While the Tottenham Hotspur first team have already ended their hopes lifting the Carabao Cup this season, the development squad have also followed suit.

Wayne Burnett’s side found themselves on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat by League One outfit Gillingham at the Priestfield.

Spurs needed a win to keep alive their hopes of progressing from the group stage of the Leasing.com trophy, but instead crash out of the competition following the loss.

The loss means that Spurs finished bottom of Group I after losing to Ipswich and beating Colchester United on penalties.

The youngsters looked second best against Gillingham and rarely threatened their goal.

With Mauricio Pochettino’s side already a staggering twenty points behind Liverpool, the Premier League title appears to be out of reach while a second Champions League final in a row is also a long shot.

The FA Cup remains Tottenham’s only realistic hope this season of ending their eleven year wait for silverware.
