Spurs’ injury woes boosted by Woodgate return

Tottenham’s defensive problems have been boosted by the return of Jonathan Woogate to full training.

Woodgate is yet to make a single appearance for Spurs this season, after suffering a groin problem in the early part of pre-season.

He has struggled with numerous setbacks with the injury, forcing him to have surgery in the USA in a bid to solve the issue.

Redknapp has suddenly gone from having a major defensive crisis to a selection crisis in the centre of defence, as all four centre-backs have now declared their fitness ahead of the clash with Portsmouth at the weekend.

Ledley King has also recovered from the hamstring strain he picked up at Chelsea, with Michael Dawson also having recently announced his return to fitness.

Tom Huddlestone has recently been forced to play at centre-back, alongside summer signing Sebastian Bassong and Redknapp is relieved to be able to have the full complement of defenders available.

He told Spurs’ Official Website, “Jonathan training again is great news for us. It looks like Ledley will be okay as well, so that gives us more options and that’s what we need.

“Suddenly we have three more fantastic centre-halves available. That makes us stronger.”
