Spurs star admits he is ‘getting more and more comfortable’ with new role

Pedro Porro had admitted that while he found the inverted right-back role challenging at first, he is getting better in the position with each passing game.

Porro has now established himself as a fixture in Tottenham’s starting eleven and has emerged as one of the club’s most reliable performers under Ange Postecoglou.

It has not been all smooth sailing for the right-back, who has had to prove plenty of critics wrong in his first year at the North London club.

There were some major doubts at first about the defensive side of his game and some Spurs fans felt that the Spaniard was not a natural fit for the inverted role when Postecoglou arrived in the summer.

However, the 23-year-old has been excellent defensively in one-on-one situations over the last few months and has made good use of the ball whenever he has received possession in central areas.

Porro has also demonstrated his quality in the final third, having managed six assists in 15 league games so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Perhaps the best of those was his perfectly weighted ball over the top to Richarlison on Sunday, with the Brazilian being able to take a touch and calmly pass it into the back of the net.

Pedro Porro is thriving as an inverted full-back

The right-back has now spoken about how he is getting more comfortable with his new role.

Porro told AS: “At the beginning, it was very difficult for me because I had never played there before and it was new to me.

“Every game, I’m feeling much better. With the passing of games and the trust of the manager, I’m getting more and more comfortable. I’m happy and I hope to keep playing good games there.”

Porro has quietly been one of our most consistent performances this season. While Udogie at the other end has taken all the plaudits, not too many right-backs across the Premier League are having a better season than the Spaniard.
