‘Start watching’ – James Maddison pokes fun at Spurs teammate on social media

James Maddison has urged his Tottenham teammate Sergio Reguilón to watch Match of the Day, so that he can see the midfielder scoring free-kicks like he does in training.

Tottenham acquired Maddison earlier this summer as a statement signing, and one which should solve a creative void for the North London side.

During his time with Leicester City, Maddison provided both goals and assists and it is hoped he can deliver similar output for Spurs.

The 26-year-old bagged 55 goals for the Foxes and offered up 41 assists in 203 appearances (Transfermarkt), and it’s safe to say that if he can achieve those kinds of numbers at Tottenham the signing will have been a success.

One area Maddison has always excelled in is set-pieces. The free-kick expert is likely to take on those responsibilities for Tottenham, who have regularly struggled to find a player capable of hitting the target from a dead ball situation.

Maddison pokes fun at Reguilón about free-kicks

A recent social media post by Tottenham Hotspur on Instagram featured Maddison firing in a wonderful free-kick during a training session.

The playmaker whipped the ball past a set of training dummies, before it hit the post and nestled in the back of the net.

Impressive stuff, but teammate Sergio Reguilón took the opportunity to have a dig at Maddison, replying to the post: “OK now I want to see this in a game.”

Maddison had the last laugh, however, responding to the Spaniard with a cheeky comment. Maddison said: “You need to start watching Match of the Day mate.”

This interaction becomes even funnier when you consider the fact that Reguilón will likely have to watch Maddison on television as he is probably leaving Spurs this summer.

Hopefully, Maddison can score plenty of free-kicks for us next season and give everyone some entertainment on Match of the Day.
