‘They are going to try’ – Journalists says club are ‘crazy’ about Spurs forward

Argentine journalist Damian Rancez has said that River Plate are going to try to sign Tottenham striker Alejo Veliz on loan in the January transfer window.

Veliz hit the limelight with his performances in the Argentine Primera Division for Rosario Central earlier this year, which prompted Tottenham to pay £12m to sign the centre-forward last summer.

The 20-year-old has not had many opportunities to make an impression at the North London club, coming on as a late substitute for all six of his Premier League appearances so far for Ange Postecoglou’s side (Transfermarkt).

Over the last couple of weeks, numerous Italian outlets have suggested that Bologna, who were beaten to the striker’s signature by Spurs last summer, could try to sign the youngster on loan next month (1000 Cuori Rossoblu).

Could Veliz leave Spurs in January?

Rancez has now floated the possibility of Veliz potentially returning back to his home country on loan, just six months after arriving in the Premier League.

The journalist revealed that River Plate are obsessed with the idea of signing the Argentina Under-20 international in next month’s transfer window.

Rancez told El Crack Deportivo Noticias: “The number nine that drives everyone crazy and that River want to bring from England is Veliz. They know it’s complicated but they are going to try a loan from Tottenham where he wants to play to be in the Argentina national team.”

I do think Tottenham would be open to loaning Veliz out in January so that the striker can get some competitive minutes under his belt. However, I highly doubt the club would want to loan him back to Argentina.

They would probably want to send him to one of the top leagues in Europe or potentially even to a Championship side so that he can get accustomed to the intensity and physicality of the English game, along with the likes of Jamie Donley who has also recently made his debut.
