‘Tottenham are not negotiating’ – Fabrizio Romano pours cold water on Spurs transfer rumour

Tottenham Hotspur are not currently involved in any active negotiations over a potential future deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The current striker situation in North London is currently up in the air with Bayern Munich continuing to push for a deal to sign Harry Kane this summer, which could leave Tottenham with a gap in their attack should a deal go through.

Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe were due to meet with Daniel Levy on Friday, however, the meeting was postponed until early next week at the request of the Tottenham chairman (Ben Jacobs).

German news outlet Bild had claimed Tottenham are prepared to potentially pay €80 million (£68.4 million) for Randal Kolo Muan, with Eintracht Frankfurt are holding out for at least €100 million (£85.5 million) if they are indeed to sell the French international.

Fabrizio Romano confirms no Spurs talks for Randal Kolo Muani

Romano provided an update on the speculation surrounding a move for the 24-year-old and played down the prospect of a move, telling the Here We Go Podcast: “I have heard this, I saw this in the media as well today, but I am told that this is not something concrete, Tottenham are not negotiating with Frankfurt or with his agents.

“I’m sure that when you’re looking internally for a striker Kolo Muani is one of the most interesting ones, so it is normal to mention his name, but in terms of concrete news, negotiations with Eintracht or with the player, no Tottenham are not working on that.”

There is no doubt that Tottenham are already working on contingency plans in the event that Harry Kane does leave for Bayern Munich this summer, however, it could be difficult to persuade a forward of Kolo Muani’s calibre to make the move when there is no European football on offer.

I would not be surprised to see Tottenham instead give Richarlison the opportunity to become the club’s number nine instead, rather than seeking another big-money move for a replacement.
