Tottenham man admits he is looking for a new challenge away from the club

Yaya Toure has admitted that he dreams of becoming a manager one day and revealed that he is on the lookout for a new coaching challenge away from Tottenham.

Yaya Toure is widely seen as one of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, having won three league titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup during his time with Man City.

The 40-year-old, who hung up his boots in 2020, joined the Hotspur Way set-up last season and worked within the Tottenham academy while he collected his necessary coaching badges.

He subsequently stayed with the North London outfit for the new campaign, taking on the role of Under-16s head coach.

The Man City legend has already had offers to become a manager, most recently one from Wigan Athletic back in November of last year (Mike Minay), which he turned down in favour of remaining at Tottenham.

Toure has now revealed that while he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Spurs, he is ready to challenge himself if a bigger opportunity comes his way.

He told The Times: “When I retired, I felt devastated. I couldn’t accept leaving football, but I didn’t have a clue about where to go or what to do.

“But I wanted to give something back to football. After [starting coaching at Spurs], I fell in love [with football] again.

“I love doing what I’m doing at Tottenham and what I can carry on giving to them, but now I feel like I’m looking for a new challenge.

“I dream to one day be a manager. We never know in life, maybe I’ll meet Man City one day again.”

Management can be such an unforgiving profession as coaches can often become unemployable after one bad stint at a club, which might even be out of their control.

That is why it is so hard for up-and-coming managers to work their way up from the lower rung. Toure thus has to be extremely smart with his choice of club if he is to take the leap to the top job.
