Tottenham’s FA Cup third round opponents are confirmed

Tottenham Hotspur will face Tranmere Rovers in the third round of this season’s FA Cup.

The League Two side faced part-time Southport in a second round replay last night after the original game ended in a 1-1 draw at Prenton Park.

However, Tranmere dashed the hopes of setting up a money-spinning tie against Premier League opposition with a 2-0 win.

Two first half goals from Dale Jennings, including a stunning volley booked Tranmere’s date with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Tranmere are currently in eighth place in League Two having won nine of their opening twenty-two matches in the competition.

The tie will take place on Friday, January 4 at 7.45pm and will be shown live on BT Sport 2.

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to go one better in the FA Cup this season after losing to Manchester United in the semi-final at Wembley. Dele Alli had given Spurs a dream start, but hopes of a first FA Cup win since 1991 were dashed after Mourinho’s side replied with two goals.
